Get close to nature at free, family-friendly BioBlitz events

West Oxfordshire residents are being invited to turn citizen scientist on Sunday 7 August as the District Council hosts its very first BioBlitz event at Kilkenny Lane Country Park, Brize Norton. The purpose, to gather as many environmental records as possible over a 24-hour period to build a picture of the lives of the different insects, animals and flowers inhabiting the park and document the level of biodiversity at this popular green, open space.

West Oxfordshire District Council has made solid progress against its climate and ecological objectives in the past six months, as outlined in its Climate Action Biannual Report presented to a meeting of the Council's Full Council this week.

West Oxfordshire District Council seeks commitment from Thames Water to reduce pollution of our rivers with raw sewage.

The Council is calling on Thames Water to do more to stop raw sewage being pumped into local rivers by increasing the capacity of sewage treatment works and also provide more transparent monitoring of sewage discharge.

Residents have been coming together at the community centre to meet new people whilst having a chat over a cup of tea. Since the end of March Kerry Miller, the Carterton Hub Worker, has been working alongside residents across Carterton and running weekly sessions every Wednesday at the community centre.

West Oxfordshire District Council is to review the use of its buildings in Witney to improve accessibility for residents, install a new system for viewing council meetings online and make the buildings more efficient.
