West Oxfordshire waste collections affected by long bank holiday
Householders in West Oxfordshire are being asked to check their refuse and recycling collections days over the Queen’s Jubilee bank holiday weekend - as well as after the celebrations have finished - to ensure they know when their bins and containers need to be presented at the kerbside for emptying.
The Council is suspending waste collections over the double bank holiday (Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June) and as a result, all households will experience a change to their collection days over the following fortnight as collections are pushed back.
To accommodate the catch up, crews will be working two consecutive six-day weeks (Monday-Saturday) when they return on Monday 6 June.
Councillor Lidia Arciszewska, Cabinet Member for Environment, West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “Many of us will be honouring the Queen’s seventy years on the throne at the beginning of June and enjoying the long bank holiday break. We are pleased that Ubico’s refuse and recycling crews will also have the opportunity to take part in the celebrations and get to spend time with their families and friends to mark this momentous occasion. So that residents know when they can expect their waste collections to take place over the following couple of weeks, we would encourage householders to visit our website and download a copy of their property’s annual waste calendar which lists all the planned changes to their collection schedule throughout the year.
“Street cleansing teams will be out working over the long bank holiday weekend to ensure our town centres are kept clean and tidy and to empty litter bins over this busy time. To help us keep the district looking its best, members of the public who may be organising or attending street parties to mark the Platinum Jubilee can play their part by remembering to take their rubbish home and help reduce waste by recycling what they can.”
