West Oxfordshire Alliance continues the partnership administration at West Oxfordshire District Council
Following the local elections on 7 May, the governing alliance of West Oxfordshire District Council has re-signed their commitment to working together in leadership of the Council ahead of the Annual General Meeting on 20 May 2026.
The Liberal Democrat, Labour and Green groups agreed to form an administration to run the Council in 2022 known locally as the ‘West Oxfordshire Alliance’. This included an Executive made up of councillors from each of the three parties in the alliance that has run the Council over the last three years.
At the local elections on 7 May 2024, no single political party gained an overall majority meaning no one party can control the council without support from other groups.
The split of councillors by party following the May 2026 election is:
- Liberal Democrats: 20
- Conservative: 16
- Labour/Labour and Co-operative: 8
- Green Party: 4
- Reform: 1
The Liberal Democrat, Labour and Green Party groups all re-signed their commitment to the alliance today, 13 May, to continue to run the Council. This gives the alliance a total of 32 councillors and a majority of 15.
Councillor Andy Graham, Leader of the Council, said:
“I am really pleased that the West Oxfordshire Alliance will be continuing to run the Council, building on what has been delivered over the past four years.
"One of our Council priorities is ‘Working in together for West Oxfordshire’ and it is incredibly important to me that we maintain this partnership in leading the Council. It will enable this Council to continue to deliver its ambitious Council Plan along with great council services for our residents and businesses.”
