Next step for West Oxfordshire’s Community Infrastructure Levy revealed as the Council strengthens its commitment to boosting local infrastructure
West Oxfordshire District Council is moving forward with plans to introduce a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) by submitting its draft charging schedule for independent examination. This follows an 8-week public consultation last summer, with all feedback now having been reviewed and minor revisions made to more clearly explain the proposed charges.
Cllr Hugo Ashton, Executive Member for Planning, said:
“The introduction of CIL will help ensure that new developments across West Oxfordshire contribute to the essential infrastructure needed to support our growing communities. From transport to schools, and community facilities, this funding will help deliver the services our residents rely on, making sure that each development is accompanied by the right infrastructure.
“This is part of our broader commitment to ensuring that growth in West Oxfordshire is properly planned and sustainable, as outlined in our emerging Local Plan. By securing additional investment through CIL, we can provide greater certainty that vital infrastructure projects will be delivered, helping to create well-connected, thriving communities.”
CIL will not replace Section 106 developer contributions, which apply to larger schemes including strategic development areas and are used to directly mitigate the impact of the development they apply to. Rather, CIL will be applied to a range of development types including smaller developments that are not generally subject to Section 106 contributions and will provide greater flexibility to help to address the cumulative impact of development.
