New homes delivered at Magpie Court provides sustainable homes for the Chipping Norton community

West Oxfordshire District Council has welcomed the completion of 12 high-quality, energy-efficient homes at Magpie Court in Chipping Norton, marking a significant step in the Council’s ambition to provide the right homes, fit for the future, in the right places for local people.

Councillor Geoff Saul, Executive Member for Housing and Social Welfare, said:

“The completion of Magpie Court is a brilliant example of how collaborative partnerships can transform our communities. These homes not only provide much-needed social rented homes but also raise the bar for sustainable living in West Oxfordshire. We are proud to support schemes like this that directly benefit our residents and enhance our local environment.”

The development, delivered in partnership with Cottsway Housing Association, replaces a 1950s block that saw significant damage from a fire in 2020. With support from a £1.32 million grant from Homes England, the new homes offer a more diverse range of social rent homes, including four houses, two maisonettes, and six apartments.

Each home has been designed to meet high environmental standards. All properties are fitted with solar panels and air-source heat pumps to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions. Residents also benefit from access to electric vehicle charging points. The mix of properties offers options for individuals, couples, and families, helping to meet the varied housing needs in the local area.

The council has worked closely with Cottsway Housing Association throughout the project as part of its wider commitment to partnership working that delivers real results for local people. A 30-year biodiversity management plan is in place to support local wildlife and green spaces around the site, ensuring that the development contributes positively to both people and nature.

This work forms part of the council's broader strategy to increase the availability of improved housing options, with 240 such homes planned for delivery between June 2024 and December 2025. By supporting developments like Magpie Court, the council will ensure that more local residents can access the homes they need in the communities they call home.
