Key role created to tackle climate change

West Oxfordshire District Council has appointed its first Climate Change Manager as part of its ongoing commitment to tackle environmental issues.
Ness Scott brings a wealth of experience in energy planning, carbon reduction and sustainable project management in both the public and private sectors.
“This role is very much about co-ordinating action in response to the climate change emergency across the organisation,” she said.
“It will be essential that everyone feels they can come on board and have the resources to help deliver a strategy. It is a really exciting time and I can’t wait to get started.”
Ness was previously an Environment and Climate Change Officer at South Gloucestershire Council and a Principal Planning Officer specialising in Sustainable Design at Westminster City Council as well as acting as a Planning and Energy Consultant for major developments in London and elsewhere.
Cllr David Harvey, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, said: “We are serious about doing our bit to tackle climate change and in order to deliver our ambition to become a zero-carbon district, we recognised the need for a senior officer to drive the necessary work that will achieve this.
“As well as pushing the climate emergency agenda forward within our council, Ness will work with residents, businesses, farmers and other groups across our district.
“We intend for this work to create a range of co-benefits in the long term – cleaner air, better buildings and reduced fuel poverty to name a few and we will need to work with others if we are going to succeed.”
Councillors approved £120,000 of funding for the Climate Change Manager position and programme delivery over the next two years.
