Improvements to cherished local park completed

Kilkenny Lane Country Park has undergone improvements to play equipment following West Oxfordshire District Council's investment of over £80,000

Kilkenny Lane County Park, a popular destination with 100,000 annual visitors, has been completed following a year of extensive work. The project included the installation of new play equipment, essential repairs and maintenance, and the construction of a new expanded car park and toilet block.

Tim Sumner, Executive Member for Leisure and Major Projects said “I am delighted to announce that work at this much-loved park has been completed. The playpark has new diggers in the sand pit, picnic tables, a new rope swing basket, a 360-degree shelter, and three new rockers. This is great news for the community that uses our essential outside space, and we’ve created a better experience for those visiting the park.

“It’s vitally important that the park continues to provide a safe haven for children and their families, a place to meet friends, and enable active lifestyles for children.

“I am grateful for the patience of residents and visitors to the park while we made sure these essential works took place while only closing a limited amount of play equipment during the improvement works.”

The council invested over £80,000 of Section 106 funding at the park. Section 106 funds are from developers given to the council for providing community and social infrastructure.

A new larger car park was also built during the improvements with 29 parking spaces, 3 disabled bays and bike racks making the park more accessible for users. With four brand new public toilets added to make the park more convenient for users.

Maintenance work was undertaken following an annual Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Safety Inspection Report. Safety at the play park will continue to be paramount, with regular inspections of all play equipment and a RoSPA safety inspection undertaken annually.
