Council Leader takes on Armed Forces Champion role

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Andy Graham, has taken on the role of the Council’s Armed Forces Champion.

The role was confirmed at today’s Full Council meeting and underlines the Council’s commitment to current and former armed forces personnel in the area.

Councillor Graham said: “We have a large armed forces community in West Oxfordshire and as a council we recognise how important it is that we support our armed forces community. As such, we feel that the Leader of the Council is the right person to be taking this champion role on.

“My father served in the forces so I am very proud to take on this role. I will be working hard to make sure the needs and contributions of military personnel and veterans are recognised, valued and supported, both within the Council and with our partners.”

The role of West Oxfordshire’s Armed Forces Champion is to act as an advocate for the needs and highlight the experiences of the Armed Forces Community in West Oxfordshire, including raising any key issues of concern and ensuring their voice is not only heard but acted upon.
