Council donates end-of-life laptops to the community
West Oxfordshire District Council has donated its end-of-life laptops for re-distribution by charity Getting Oxfordshire Online. Council engineers have given after giving them a new lease of life before sending on to those most in need of them.
The local charity Oxford IT Bank helps residents in the local community by providing innovative technology solutions.
Councillor Andy Graham, Leader of the Council, said, “It’s hard for many of us to believe that there are still people who are digitally excluded in our communities. We can take for granted how IT can enable a whole world of possibilities that not all people are able to access.
“I am delighted that we can donate this IT equipment to make people’s lives easier to manage, help them to keep in touch with friends and family or complete the weekly food shop. Managing your personal life or a household has become increasingly difficult, and I’m pleased that we are able to do our part to help.”
Donated equipment has been securely wiped of all data and refurbished before items are distributed to those in need. The donated equipment will be ‘end of life’ for commercial use but will be more than suitable for most personal uses, with council engineers ensuring they are recycled correctly.
Ben Tuppin from Getting Oxfordshire Online said, “We’re hugely grateful for the ongoing support of the West Oxfordshire District Council. These laptops are life changing for the people and families which receive them, helping them complete education, find work, access healthcare and basic services and benefit from the richness of our online world.
“Our impact report at Getting Oxfordshire Online includes many stories of examples of the differences these devices are making.”
