Brand new business hub set to drive local business growth in West Oxfordshire
West Oxfordshire District Council is proud to have partnered with Hexagon, who are launching the new Hexagon Business Hub at the Council’s Elmfield offices this spring. The space, previously an office for council employees, has been transformed into a dynamic business hub aimed at boosting local enterprise and innovation. Managed by Hexagon, the hub offers affordable, flexible office spaces and has already attracted businesses from a wide range of sectors.
Leader of West Oxfordshire District Council, Cllr Andy Graham, said, "We are delighted to see this space transformed into a vibrant business hub that will support the growth and success of local organisations. We are proud to be partnered with local business, Hexagon, who are using the space to provide state of the art workspaces that will help entrepreneurs and established businesses thrive in West Oxfordshire.
“This is a significant step in our commitment to effectively managing our finances by making smarter use of our estates and assets. By leasing the space to Hexagon, we’ve been able to support local businesses, save council funds that will help fund vital services and also reduce our carbon footprint through installing new solar PV on the building."
The refurbishment of the Elmfield building has been supported by funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and the lease of the Elmfield building forms part of the Council's strategy to make better use of its buildings. The income generated will directly help to fund council services residents rely on and is part of Council’s approach of sensibly managing its finances.
Abbie Wilcox, Hexagon Business Centre Director, said, “We’re delighted to have worked closely with West Oxfordshire District Council to repurpose Elmfield House, preserving its heritage while ensuring it meets the needs of today’s workforce.
“The transformation of Elmfield House into a modern workspace reflects our dedication to supporting local businesses in Witney, and provides a vibrant, flexible environment where professionals can collaborate, innovate, and grow.
“This partnership with West Oxfordshire District Council underscores our shared commitment to fostering economic growth in the region and we're excited to be part of Witney’s flourishing business landscape."
Sustainability has also been a priority in this project, with solar panels installed to power the building, reducing its environmental impact and aligning with the Council’s net-zero ambitions. This commitment to sustainability extends to the businesses that will use the space, creating a hub that is both environmentally and financially sustainable.
Additionally, the Edge Eatery will be opening a community café on-site, offering a welcoming space for both hub tenants and the public.
Cllr Graham added, “The Edge Eatery’s on-site café will not just be a place to grab a bite, but also a welcoming space that will bring people together, whether they’re working in the hub or just popping in.
“We’re pleased to have supported them through our Carbon Action Fund, which helps local businesses become more sustainable and resilient. The funding has helped them purchase essential equipment needed to get the café up and running, and we’re excited to see how the facility will contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of the hub."
