100% affordable development in Enstone made possible through push for more social rented housing options

A new housing development in Enstone has delivered 29 much-needed affordable homes (15 of which Social Rent), through West Oxfordshire District Council’s partnership with Orbit Homes. By working together to secure additional funding from Homes England and using Section 106 developer contributions, the Oxford Road development is 100% affordable, including an increased number of social rented homes.

Councillor Geoff Saul, Executive Member for Housing and Social Care, said:

"West Oxfordshire is facing a housing crisis, and we know many local people are struggling to find secure, genuinely affordable homes. Standard development alone won’t deliver the range of housing options our communities need, which is why we are working proactively to ensure the right homes are built in the right places for those who need them most.

This development at Oxford Road is a great example of what can be achieved through strong partnership working. By working with Orbit Homes to acquire additional funding, we’ve been able to go further—delivering more social rented homes than would normally be provided. As a council, we are committed to doing everything we can to increase the supply of truly affordable housing and support local people in need."

This work forms part of the Council's broader strategy to increase the availability of affordable housing options, with 240 such homes planned for delivery over the current and next financial year. The homes on Oxford Road provide a mix of tenures, including social rent and shared ownership options, offering more opportunities for residents to find suitable housing within their local area.

Brian Nearney, Regional Managing Director at Orbit Homes, said:

“We were delighted to work in partnership with the Council at Enstone Leys to expand the availability of quality affordable homes in the area. This has been a great opportunity to work alongside West Oxfordshire District Council and Homes England to deliver 29 new homes in a mix of affordable tenures which have directly supported the local housing need.”
